Sensodyne works in one of two ways, to relieve the pain of sensitive teeth, depending upon its active ingredient: Strontium Chloride, Strontium Acetate or Potassium Chloride.
Sensodyne Total Care Toothpaste (Total Care F and Total Care Gel)
These Sensodyne products contain Potassium Chloride.
Potassium works by calming nerves to stop the sensitivity associated with trigger activities, like eating ice cream. Both products also contain Sodium Fluoride and Triclosan to help combat dental decay, plaque and gum disease and also keep gums healthy.
These
toothpastes are formulated to provide total protection for your teeth and
gums. They can be used twice daily, like you would a normal toothpaste,
for complete oral health and for lasting relief from sensitive teeth.
Always read the label.
Sensodyne Mint and Sensodyne Original Toothpaste These
Sensodyne products contain Strontium Acetate and Strontium Chloride respectively.
Beneath
your tooth enamel is a layer called dentine, made from thousands of microscopic tubes or
tubules. When the nerve endings within these tubules are exposed to
triggers like cold drinks, you will feel short, sharp pains. Strontium Acetate
and Strontium Chloride help block the tubules, preventing the nerve from
being stimulated. Every time you brush with a Sensodyne paste containing Strontium
Acetate or Strontium Chloride you are building up a barrier to
painful stimuli. Always read the label.
